I am still pumped from creating that Blockbuster spindle gear so I have a new challenge for myself - 3D print a replacement cassette door for the Leia Project.

Looking at the geometry it looks doable as the design is mostly flat with the exception of the plastic hooks in the back. This weekend I’m buying a 3D printer to use mainly for prototyping and then sending the final product to a higher quality printer. I am inspired by member Caution who has done this for the Connion and the Blockbuster door works and looks pretty basic so I’m gonna challenge myself.

I had put a donor door on the Leia Project box but I want to make a legit replacement.

My OCD‘ness should work with getting it right.

Here are some photos.

If all goes well, I‘ll make a few extras. I’ve seen so many Blockbuster’s for sale without the door - it’s time!

Version 1 of the body size, I suspect I may be making more tweaks. This is just rough for size without details. I don’t need to relief cut the back so I’m going to keep that flat and print the hooks separately and glue them on. Looks like a window frame- lol.

I’m still learning..
