Ended up getting my aunt’s sony CFD 10 and was able to get the cassette player working by replacing the belts. Not too happy with the sound, highs and lows are sort of muddled. Is there any sort of DIY I could do to make it sound better? Or should I just get a new player :/

The head might need to be cleaned or adjusted.
It should have a screw with a spring behind it.
While playing, slowly turn the screw both ways and see if the sound improves.
There's usually a notch or hole so that a thin screwdriver can access the screw while the head is in play mode.
