The cassette eject lever/button is blocked. If the front part of the case is seperated, the door can be opened without problems. Perhaps the inside lever oft the opening mechanism isn't properly attached to the mechanical cassette mechanism. Any ideas?

All of those little white parts you circled contain a locking mechanism to prevent you from opening the deck door while a tape is playing.

It sure looks like the heads are stuck in the raised position, so you'll have to spin the flywheel to reset the heads in the lowered position to unlock the eject mechanism.

If the capstan motor is going it might keep you from opening. Open the box, tap the capstan motor with a screwdriver, maybe even spray some deoxit in the motor and give it a try.

I have an M80. It is what Eric (caution) said and also due to deck not resetting. Loose belts and mechanical transport slipping..
There is a rubber contact wheel that gets worn out. You might have to replace it.
I have a post on the work ..... let me look up.
Actually a great member here Arom (superlew) pointed out the problem to me.
