before photoshop they airbrushed things. custom tinted prints. so many things can affect the colour from hand retouching to the lighting of the print itself.
you can never use a print to figure out what the original colour of something.
those pro photos of the gold boombox are almost certainly custom printed . most likely custom tinted slides.
