Yo,
Lately I've been on a real boombox roll! This unfortunately coincided with my university exam and new girlfriend :-D so I haven't been able to take super-quality outside pictures. I have some nice unpacking ones though :-) .

So the roll started about two-three weeks ago when I bought/received a Toshiba bombeat 16 from fellow member Dits :smooch:. He had two he advertised on S2G and I've been after one for ages and jumped on it. It's a bit rough, deck not working, one cassette key missing, one knob missing and front not being fully attached to body/lack of screws that fit. But it sounds great and looks amazing still ! I overpaid a bit but it was still worth it once I find some screws that fit :-D . A great seller with amazing packing ! And If I'm REALLY lucky I can seal the deal on a minty one I found elsewhere soon :).

Here with the sibling Bombeat RT-9990SM

Next is a Goldstar TSR-800 from Ebay Germany. I spotted one a few weeks earlier that looked nice and I read up and decided that if it was cheap I'd take a chance. I lost out on that one, but then at the end of April another one came up! Just one pic and stating "fully working" I decided to take a chance for 121 EUR. Cleaned up nicely, It's a nice box. The controls are a bit flimsy and it's not super-heavy as it's size would suggest, but that's not a bad thing. Because it sounds massive :stereo: ! Like super-loud. For rock music etc. it's almost my loudest. For hip hop it's still good and I'm very pleased with the sound. It doesn't look super-cool tho and I might use it as a party-box or trade it.

The delivery of that one coincided with a highly anticipated box: the Sharp GF-9696  .. Been after this one for AGES, still remember last christmas when I missed one on French bay for just 161 Eur..
:bang: . So this mine is from Germany again, like the perfect buy, many large, clear pictures, a video, great communication and a GREAT price ! Arrived very fast and well-packed. Only negative is the missing grills, but tbh I would never use them anyways  . A bit smaller than anticipated, but the condition is amazing, no scratches or major marks and just overall 9/10 and fully working  . It's very solid and heavy with amazing high-quality controls and switches ! I love it ! It's from 1980 I think, boy did they make good stuff back then. Compared to my newer Panamax giant black box it's like 7 times better in all ways.

In addition to this I found ANOTHER one of my 4-most (now 2) wanted on Ebay ! The Aiwa 770A with blue grillz in Italy. The seller was however very difficult to deal with, he didn't really answer questions and after I expressed some worries about this after making an offer he went into caps-lock-italian-insults-mode and I decided to not stand by my BIN-offer and just leave it alone, because if something happened I know he would deny/not understand/be a real bitch about it. But hey, it's nice to still have two to be on the lookout for :D.

Peace

Thanks guys ! yeah the collection is coming together very nicely, I don't think I'll be expanding much more now, I'm selling off 2 or 3 boxes to make room for these and also my 80s stereo system with record player :-) . I'm only really on the lookout for the Aiwa 770A and Sony CFS-99 ! Then ofc if someone offers me a Sharp GF-767 for £50 or something I'll take it, but those two are the only ones I'm actively looking for :-P

And I guess we all have different taste, to me the Goldstar is a bit plain and square while the 9696 could be my favourite looking one ever.. Maybe :-D

A dual shot I forgot to include:

If you could have only one of the two, which one would it be ?

Nice finds but I have to disagree about the looks of the Goldstar, I think it looks fantastic!!

James.... :-)
Agree with Jimmy, this is an awesome looking radio!

The 9696 is probably a better looker IMO but they're both stunning......

The Goldstar please, but only because the Sharp's speaker frets aren't fitted. Not that this would put me off massively, 9696s don't exactly fall from the trees so a case of any port in a storm. It's just that unprotected speakers tend to get wrecked by cats and last time I was playing my B&O with its frets off, it took me six weeks to find a replacement for the speaker with the paw-shaped hole!

love all of them , the 9962 is a potent box but it's not fair to compare it too the sharp or even the toshiba as much as i love the other 2 the sharp is the stand out model of the 3. i wish somebody would just fit some mesh grills on that box that would sit just inside the chrome trims and get rid of those square ones all together.or even make them removable , just will never understand the concept of square grills over round speakers.needless to say that sharp is a form of viagra unto itself .
