So I got tired of daily notifications of facebook groups that I didn't even know how I was added into.  So I deleted all the groups, except one (which is on probation).  Pressing the "delete" key isn't that easy to do.  BUT I did it.

Guess what?

The sky didn't fall.

The sun came up the next morning.

The apocalypse didn't happen....  yet.

My fridge still has food in it.

The plumbing still works.

My dogs still call me master.

And the clocks still continued to keep time proving we are not in limbo.

BUT all those pesky daily facebook notifications, that tells me I have x-hundreds of unread notifications, unread messages, all the important things I'm missing out on.....?  Yeah, they are all gone!

And so, life goes on.  It appears that you CAN survive without facebook, which I'm sure is the devil.  I just need to delete the main app once and for all.  Well, maybe tomorrow, just in case I don't miss anything between now and then, cuz in the meantime that little red numbered bubble next to the blue F is beckoning me once again.

Never been a fan of it and dont use it beyond once every blue moon, and all of the above plus much more is better for it.

I tried fakebook for a short period a few years ago but deleted my account once I realised it's business model was information harvesting, spying, social control, censorship and all things anti social.

When I think about the old Soviet Block of countries spying relentlessly, with any and all devious means at their disposal, on their own citizens they would have loved something like fakebook - there'd be no need to work hard at scrutinising every detail of a persons life or getting other citizens to rat on each other for information 'cos they'd all be posting every aspect of their lives directly to the NKVD webski site.

I'll stop there as I have no desire to get carried away but It's safe to say that I despise fakebook with a passion.

Remember:  You don't need fakebook - it needs you and, if something appears free online, YOU are the product:yes:

Never had a facebook. As I've joked before, I still have MySpace, which is true. I occasionally post something there for giggles.

I had mine for quite sometime... Found myself constantly pulling my phone out of my pocket just to clear notifications/stuff I got tagged in... Nothing useful at all..
Deleted the app off my phone...after a few weeks of realizing I'm not missing it at all, I deleted the account completely..
Such a waste of time..

Facebook is principally for people who give a shiat what other people are doing. :-)

I got out of all the boombox groups on facebook. I refuse to have the app on my phone because there is no reason for me to be glued to facebook. I check it a couple times a day because I don't have cable at home and really it's the only 'live' updates I get on the news/events.

Was wondering that too, Reli.
I'll always be on there, but all I use it for is messenger, to stay in touch with people that would otherwise be nearly impossible.

That's about the only reason I consider getting a facebook. To keep or get in touch with people I haven't seen in years. But all the filler and random stuff I see when my wife is on hers just makes it seem annoying to go through.

Good for you Norm. I had a FaceBag account for my music, but deleted it last year. I recently logged back in to check something, then turned it back off. But you are NEVER really deleted. It is always there FOR EVER.

This past year I have stopped using FaceBag, Instagram and a few other social disease platforms. I honestly found life to be better without them. I still have my Twitter account for my music, but it only relays from my music up date blog. So if I post on my website it tweets.

With the exception of this site, I'm pretty much done with it all. It's just too time consuming and toxic.

F**k Facebook.

Social media is not for me, I dont have any time for that and as Chris pointed out its toxic crap.

I met a guy i hadn't seen in years recently in a supermarket, we were chatting away and he said he had to go as he needed to update his Facebook before lunch break was over. I deleted his number from my phone as i realized we had moved on, him to facebook, me to not being a massive girly social media whore.

Actually, for me, I'm already not really using it at all except because my daughter insists on tagging me, and contacting me through messenger which is the only reason I have kept it active.  That's why I get all those notifications but 99% of them are just time wasters and tidbits to try to lure me into logging in to view all the stupid stuff.  Generally speaking, the social media crowd is not MY type of crowd.  So much drama, so much hate and ridiculous intolerance.  The constant one-upmanship game to post the most ridiculous, most absurd, gross, foul, etc... makes one wonder is it that social media brings out the worse in people, or are those with a propensity towards that type of behavior more attracted to social media?  I dunno, maybe both.

Norm, It only takes a few minutes for scanning through any YouTube video comments section to see what your talking about.

Not to long ago I watched a few TED Talk videos on the subject of facebook (one is below) and other social media platforms and I found it very interesting. One of the issues with Facebook is, people post up their vacations and the fantastic dinners and clubs they go to and these things have a multi pronged effect. The people who are seeing these feeds feel inadequate in their own lives because THEY are not going on these "awesome" vacations and THEY are not going out to nice dinners. But what they don't see is that the feeds they are seeing are only showing a snapshot of someones "Preserved" life and not REAL LIFE. Most people aren't posting them hauling the trash to the curb and the bag ripping open in the rain! But that's what we are ALL actually doing! These twitter feeds and FB feeds are jealousy feeds. They are ego feeds. Everyone wants to project their life like its an episode of "Cribs", but on Cribs, the refrigerators were all empty! The cars were all in the driveway! Because it's all BS. A rented house with realtor staged furniture, rental cars dropped off in the front yard. People sign up for FB to find friends and family and get trapped in the degradation of it all and the ensuing anxiety that comes with it.

There's nothing wrong with staying in touch with friends and family. But these systems have been designed to exploit. To break into parts of your life that you shouldn't want to give up.

The only reason I have a Facebook account is to manage the Boomboxery group there.

Oh, and to steal 1980s pictures of Freddie.

Well said Chris,I’ve wanted to delete my account on several occasions but I do keep in touch with my female friends so that’s probably the only reason I haven’t done that.😮

It surprises me how some people post everything about themselves, to the entire world, and expect only good things to happen from it.

And they post highly political and racist opinions too.  Lots of news sites allow people to post their opinion under the article.  And they do it using their FB profile, for all the world to see (including maybe their employer).  Stupid.

Yeah, some horrible comments, linked right back to their account. There was an old BBXRY member that shall remain un-named that was saying some horrifically racist stuff on Instagram, had to block that dude, turn my back and walk away.

What????

Dude, you popped my bubble!   :-O  :dunce:

But no matter -- the words are true.  It's the grass is greener syndrome.  Instead of being happy and content with their own lives, they are always comparing and wishing it is something else instead of what it actually is.
