I bought this M90 for some parts I needed but boy it was disgusting when it got here. I knew I would be selling the majority of this blaster to someone else but it was so gross I simply couldn't just give it to the next guy like this. The project turned from a couple hour affair to a 2 day tear down, clean up, and re-assemble. I'm happy I did it because I would have felt like a tool shoving this filth on someone else.

You guys like to see the process, so I will share the pictures I have. It cleaned up to be pretty dang respectable considering how much worse it could have been.

Enjoy!

The bath was disgusting.

I'm pretty sure that was a combination of feces and hair.

I had to put in a different set of speakers from a Lasonic that were painted black. I couldn't rush through trying to clean the original speakers and I also need the originals for one of my other radios.

The before pictures were disgusting! All that hair and I'm assuming cat piss...who would let that happen to any piece of electronics? The after pictures don't even look like the same box! Great work Joe and thanks for thinking about the life of this boomer going down the road to someone else who will appreciate it 👍

The only thing I can think of is that this radio was probably sitting in the same room as the cat litter box, maybe even right next to it...... anything that sprayed over the box hit the radio? Who knows. You can't even tell now it cleaned up so good. The cassette door was done, so I had to repaint that at least. I almost painted the whole front case except for the center section with the lettering but I couldn't commit the extra time to do it properly right now. The new owner can decide what they want to do with that, at least it's clean now! ;-)

Oh, and here's the only picture I got of it before it was sold to me. You think he was trying to hide anything...... yeah  :annoyed: :hmmm:

You can't see a spec of detail in the picture, only that it looks complete and a little bit of wear on the tweet trims and around the power button and the speakers look dusty.

Not that the seller was a crook, but in this day and age there is no reason to have such crappy pictures. They could have mentioned there was 'foreign material' all over it and that it smelled

It's so shocking the way some folk live and treat stuff, why on earth would anyone let anything get that bad - never mind an expensive item like this. On the other hand, I find what you did was exemplary, good man!

I suppose his/her camera´s lens was also contaminated with this "foreign material", that´s why so bad photos :w00t: How did you paint those speaker covers, do you remove old paint or just make speaker grille surface rough and then spray the speaker grilles ?

For the speaker grills i wash them, use air compressor blow them off, rough them up with sand paper/scotch pad, wipe down with windex, 3-4 coats of paint (sometimes primer 1st if I have it). I use to sandblast them and powdercoat grills but that's a bit overkill for these.

Sand blasting works so well. After all the wash and sanding I use a steel brush for the final cleaning and that cleans the edged of the perforations real well. Then soap wash and final rinse in DI water, dry and paint.

I saw a hand held laser beam on you tube that can remove rust so well. That looks very interesting!
