This post came from the great FYJ2972 at S2G.

Replace a burnt JVC RC-M70 dia light by a modern white LED is a fancy job.

But its dial-light momentary action push switch is not so cute. That means if you want the light stay on that you have to keep pressing the button.

Well, Owner said: Frank, I want that switch turn to be a lock-type switch without modify RC-M90 original switch.

Here turns to an idea. By using a 4017 chip could handle the job.

Here is how that IC works.Turn on the set, Press "DIAL-LIGHT" button once, LED stays on till you press that light again and it goes off.

12V/GND/Trigger wires are RED/WHITE/YELLOW. 3mm/5mm white LEDS are aside. One 5mm LED is on PCB, It will be installed to dial scale later.

BMoney, you are absolutely correct! I was looking for a particular post from old Frank regarding M70 volume slider repair and came across his post about the LED. A lot of old Frank's posts are no longer there. Many great, old, tech posts have just disappeared from S2G. :'-(

that's not cool. there's just no way to remember all this stuff year after year. sometimes you just gotta go back and dig up some old material to read up on. but if it's not there... :-/

oh well...at least now it'll be here for everyone! :-D we definitely don't need to see boxes with toggles drilled into them for illumination purposes lol!

:-/ :annoyed: :nonono: :'-(

That's the way the LED light in the Sangean U-1 utility radio is done (a momentary switch with a 4013 IC and driver transistor). The Sangean might qualify as a bbx with its bridged amp and 6.5" speaker! No stereo or cassette tho.

It is my intention to share tech things I've done with my bbx's with my fellow boombox brothers, but I just don't have the time right now. It's VERY frustrating :annoyed: because I enjoy this type of "puttering." I love hot-rodding amp circuits, making eq circuits (Jovie!), and of course, LED mods are always cool.

Nice pic of the M70s speakers btw.
