Let me show you my work to update own boombox.

Of course, this starts by adding bluetooth. However, I also wanted to add a microcontroller to manage dynamic lighting.

My work is limited by the wish not to change too much the external aspect of the machines.
Sometimes I have to make a hole to add the button but rarely more.

It took me several months of work on my free time because I am not a specialist in the field.
My creations are mainly made for my family and friends but I sometimes sell one to repay my investments.

Some of you already know my work because I started my customization on my first boombox, a JVC M70.
Other models have been modified, like a Pioneer SK-353 and more recently a National RS-4150.

Incerning the implementation, I work with an Arduino Uno and a shield I designed that allows me to manage 4 bands of LEDs, a status led, a button and line input for sound-based animation.

My work on code comes mainly from the sharing that the internet allows. So it seemed normal to me to share it.
The code is available for everyone on GitHub.

My creations are presented on my facebook page.

At the moment, I don't sell a complete installation kit. Because many components come from China and it would not be logical to simply act as an intermediary.
I plan to sell my circuit soon with these components for people who master a little soldering iron and who have notions of computers and programming. You will just have to buy the other elements in China on Aliexpress.
The price will probably be 50€ (+ postage) and it will obviously include my assistance to help with integration.
But you have to know it will not be "Plug&Play" and some boomboxes have caused me problems because their audio circuit are too sensitive to perturbations of the led strips and the switching power supply that must be installed.

Very cool!

If I understand correctly, the Line Out supplies the music to the Arduino Uno microprocessor, which allows you to select the pattern?

What are the advantages of that, versus THIS sound controller which does not require Line Out?

That looks awesome! However, I would have a difficult time doing that to a box I truly cared about.

I have a few ideas to build a custom box. If I ever get around to building it, those lights would be perfect. You gotta make up some kits to sell. I can be your second purchaser!

And from the looks of it, you can reverse the mods back to factory appearance because you are not defacing the case in any form. :-)

Put me down for the first purchaser. I’d love to pimp one of my M70’s like that :-)
It's registered!

Very good question!
Using the line output allows you to have a standardized volume and avoid surrounding noise.
Systems available on ebay are not expensive, but they have a limited use. There are several types of LED strip lights. The one I use is composed of addressable leds.
Each led can have an independent color. So the effects are much more attractive.
It's like comparing a noname chinese cassette player and a Conion C100F. :)

I never deface a boombox! In the worst case, i drill a 10MM hole to have a push button to operate the led system, and i have try to hide it.

I worked on the code to add some features.

The most interesting thing is that the lights now automatically go to sleep when there is no more music. And of course everything comes back on at the slightest sound

That's so cool. It's too bad the MMS LEDs are such a beotch to rewire, because they are in the center of the box.

I note that some seem impatient. :-D I just started writing the documentation.
For those who wish, i can already giv the list of additional equipment which it will be necessary to obtain.

New to the forum and blasters in general (happy new RC-M70 owner after some rehab/TLC), but I can recognize perfection when I see it  -- PM sent.
