Sony CFS-W401 with intermittent distortion in one speaker

Works great except sometimes the right speaker goes very soft with a low rumble and distortion of the music.

Cleaned the contacts on the connectors to the front panel that holds the speakers, didn't help and doesn't seem to be the problem.

Rotating/tapping the body of the main box (this unit initially separates into a front panel with just the speakers/clock and everything else in the main box) sometimes corrects the sound in the right speaker, so I suspect a poor electrical connection in there somewhere.

Any ideas on where to look? Thanks,

Probably a bad coil. This can be intermittent and maybe fine for a while but then volume decreases as it warms up. Easiest way to fix is replace the both speakers.

Also check the solder joints at the pins on the PC board where the speakers plug in. Sometimes these pins have bad solder joints.
