Hi all, my Boombox mate passed on a 9797 for me to freshen up yesterday. First thing to say is what absolute gem of a box, lovely sound and the tuner is phenomenal. Anyway, loose antenna, one dodgy speaker, loose belts, corroded battery terminals all sorted and a bath and thorough clean, it is looking and sounding superb.

The only issue left to sort is the lights for the clock/tuner display, I forgot to look at it before putting it back together. Are they easily replaced or part of the actual display and if so are they easy to get hold of. I need to pull it apart again when the belts turn up so can replace them then if I have them ready.

Stripped it down again last night. The LED lights light up very slightly when mains power is plugged in but not bright enough to illuminate the display. I've cleaned the light switch and the wiring is all secure in to the board to and from the switch.

Not good, not to pee you off more but I was blown away by how good this one is. I live in a reinforced concrete house and the reception in my kitchen is usually poor. This thing blasts away as if it's on top of my local hill

Jealous it's not mine

I have a lot of other top of the line boxes in my collection, so I won't get so pixxed off!
Plus it is a weak sibling from the GF family.

I gave him it back last week and he was over the moon with how its cleaned up and now sounding but I'm picking it back up tomorrow to change the belts as they arrived yesterday so I'll have another blast with it in the garden

I think you could try a standard LED in there to see if it shines any brighter. The LED could be ok and there may be another component issue I'm not sure.

Had a quick look in the manual: the LCD display lights are:

Check R324 pictured above maybe? Should be 470 Ohm.
Interesting to know because any I've seen have always had dim LED's.
