I'm kind of thinking he just lost the thrill when most veteran members abandoned him for being to aggressive and inflexible.

tim --they LOOK mono ??? 
when we took one apart last year --there were too many inner covers to really
take it all apart to see the entire speaker train --its a bunch of tunnels in there
but it SOUNDS stereo --
and both sets of RCA in/out jacks are stereo-
and , finally - when i make a tape recording --and play that tape
on any other box -- its STEREO !!
sorry for the non- definitive answer --
it would not seem right - that as late as 1984 --]
that bose would have made any $$ expensive mono systems.
