See I have a Awia 990 (Ira knows this) that is my junker parts box for stuff like antennas and square tips for controls.. stuff like that.. it has two NICE antennas with white tips that are EXACTLY the same size!!

Would it be a party foul to install them on a 880?

tony//ahardbody is the only one we know with a certified original 880 -
as he bought his retail/new --
so ask him about the correct antenna

Here I go again.... but look, I'm just wondering.

If there is an 880 out there -- one with white tipped antennas and another with chrome tips. And you suspect that the original antennas were white tipped -- do you offer more for the one with original antenna tips and if so, how much more? $20. $100. $200? Let's just say for the sake of argument here that both boxes are otherwise identical.

I guess what I'm saying is to me, good fitting functional antennas suit me perfectly fine. I wouldn't necessarily pay more if the antennas were originals. However, I have seen enough instances where there seems to be a fanatical obsession with original antennas. An antenna that obviously isn't original because it doesn't fit good is one thing. But in a situation where the antenna present is such that you have to track down an original owner to determine if it's original or not -- well, that's another.

Just wondering out loud here: how prevalent is this obsession and how much more would it be worth?

I like original if I can find them cheap, but I don't mind any that fit right.

My aiwa's the 1981 has chrome tips and the 1982 has white tips, but identical length, just different tips..
