Connecting an MP3 to an Hitachi TRK8200

Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong? I have a 95% condition TRK8200 which works really well. I decided to try connecting an external devide through the mic jack socket as I have seen that most people have great success with this. I connected this with a Belkin jack connector, switched the device to line in and found it played with poor sound quality and with hardly any volume even when cranking the Hitachi right up. I assume that either the jack input (marked on the case as Mic in) is faulty, or expects a more powerful device signal. Do I buy a cable to try and go in through the 5-pin din or am I missing something. Many thanks for any advice.

The line input is designed for use with the din plug on Euro models, you should have better success with a din plug.

Hi Atomtan,

I have used an ipod nano with this Hitachi unit to very good effect. It is sufficiently loud and clear. The only unit I have where there are no wiring issues with the DIN plugs.
