Howdy folks.

I've got a GF 9090 with the dreaded disintergrated capstan.

I'm told this is easy to replace but my question is, how do I get to the part of the capstan that I need to fix?

You have to open the boombox to get to the cassette mechanism. The mechanism is probably held in place by four or five screws. You will need access to the back of the mechanism in order to remove the flywheel and replace the disintegrated capstan tire. While you're in there, it might be a good idea to go ahead and replace the belts if they are old.

Mate thats fantastic. I thought I would have to do that when I disassembled the box (slightly) but didn't want to incase I made a complete hash of it!

Is there any chance you could point me in the direction of where I could buy the silicone tubing online appropriate for the capstan?

The silicon fuel tubing can be found at almost any R/C (radio controlled) hobby shop. You'll need one with a 0.215" or 0.22" outside diameter. The inner diameter should be around 0.0455" to 0.05".

Then use some sand paper to lightly rough up the outside surface after trimming. Doing so gives the tubing a little more "grab."
