i dunno. i have to be honest.
the cast looks too young
the enterprise looks like a mac store with too many lights turned on
spock looks pretty spockish thats a positive
the trailers seem like the movie is more based around inducing vertigo than script or substance.
i want to like this movie i really do. i mean the last four trek movies were less than great.
in fact the only feature length treks i thought were very good were the first one and the second one.
i mean i have to be honest the trailer with kirk racing towards the cliff in the corvette makes me wonder when he is going to open up the coke can and take a swig.
i am gonna wait till it comes too ppv then watch it on the box here.
i wont pay to see it in the theatre.
i could be convinced to see it at the drive in if there was another movie playing with it that i wanted to watch.

ahardbody-I was always a fan of the original series.Everything since then to me just doesn't feel like Star Trek.I actually liked the "planet on a stage with multiple colored lights shining down on it" and fake special effects look of that series. As a child though it always really annoyed me to see the opening credits. They couldn't even make the Enterprise track a straight line as it came towards you.I've always wondered if Windows got the idea for the starfield/flying through space screensaver from those opening minutes of the show. They also invented the flip phone. As a series it had excellent writing, good casting, and you could get totally absorbed watching it.Though I can understand the cult following,I don't like the way it has become a virtual religion to some. But of course I DID refer to it as a "cult",didn't I?

bill-so glad your here! You seem to have always had a way with words, analogies, and observations in many of your posts. This is no exception.I've heard it said that even a few of the crew in the original series were a bit young for their positions. Now they give us a crew looking fresh out of high school! Your apple store comment is too funny  Actually I think the bridge looks like a cosmetics bar in a department store myself. I too think some of the promo clips remind me of the likes of a coke commercial. Thanks for a good laugh

Oh well,I'll probably see it anyway. I have a feeling though that I'll return home only to pull out my original series discs to view again.

things to be glad about.
the enterprise looks fantastic theres no doubt about it. it looks like the enterprise.
theres no dodge logo on it.
remember the fantastic four silver surfer. i nearly fell out of my seat when i saw the fantastic four climb into a space ship with a dodge ram grill.

simon pegg is mccoy hes a pretty funny cat and he has a perfect well nearly perfect scottsh accent.
we wont have to worry about spock dying then being brought back to life again .

i am sure there will be lots of photon torpedos being fired.
i am also sure we will be spared the cool but strange wormhole type scene in the first motion picture, the one that made you wonder if someone had put lsd into your pop.
missstttteerrr chekoovvvv pprrreeepppaaareee toooo ffffiiirrrreeee phhhhaaasseeeerrrrsssss............
NOOOOOOOO BBBBEEELLLAAAYYY THHHAAATTTT ORRRRDER.

it will be interesting to see how tried and true trekkies respond to the new flick.
back in the day when i used to do the scifi cons up here they would always be in some kind of fight over something or another.
most trekkies are good people, but some of them scare me.
i mean fighting about wheather or not the gorn could beat the predator was a bit much for me to enjoy that scene.
i also wonder what all those klingons are going to do now with there tng style costumes.
are the original kingons going to be cool again.
it was always kind of strange to me how the first klingon was the same actor who later played sarek spocks dad.
i will say this tho. i think they could have taken a risk and let shat play his sons grandpappy or something. i mean throw the guy a bone as strange of a man as he is he is a iconic character and they should have thrown him in for good fun.

i just hope there is no product placement in it. that is almost impossible nowadays.
back in the day tho that never happened. i guess tho perhaps star trek is a big enough product in of its own to just stand on its own.
other things i wonder.
will this spin into a new tv series. if it flops it could spell the end of star trek for a while in terms of new series.

one thing i would love and i think the technology is getting close is for them to do cgi episodes with the original characters and general look of it.
i dont think they can pull it off yet but they are close.
i mean last years cgi beowulf was pretty cool so, it could happen.
i am not a total trekkie but lets face it many things about that original series were just super cool

yepppers.
its set in the time of the original cast. spock kirk mccoy, but with younger actors with more modern aysmetrical hair cuts.
i find it ironic how they have made spock look like a skinny emo kid.
allthough perhaps in many ways spock was the original emo kid.

Saw star trek last night, it was pretty good, can't wait to see it where I can hear all of it, and it seems the drive in's always play movies that have a lot of dark scenes in them, this movie was one of those. Will have to wait for it to come out on dvd and watch it in the comfort of my own home.

I did see it yesterday!, it was rather kool but lots of unlogical things

:-D

And the romulans did not look like they used to
And a few other things that did bother me compared to the series, like the
last Enterprise series were great!, why not used the in this movie those
actors? :-/

this movie was supposed to be telling you how Captain Kirk became captain and how he met his whole normal crew. It actually takes place BEFORE the time period that the original tv show did. The last series was way after captain Kirk and crew were gone, technically.

It's like what they did with the Star Wars movies, the first movie came out and than the next 3 told the story of what took place before the original movie, it's confusing

Toledo, OH!
I saw it as well and I liked it. There were some things that were changed but it's ok. They used Harold fom that stoner flick Harold and Kumar to play Zulu, hilarious! And Scotty was dude from Shaun of the Dead. Mccoy was paranoid as ever . Ahura was smoking hot, but she had a thing for spock??? I was digging her green roomate that Kiri nailed! Ha! :w00t:
