That's not bad looking, Ira. It sort of reminds me of the Panasonic RX-C50 or maybe the RX-C45. Hopefully, it will sound as good as the Panas.

Yes, whenever I find them, which I often don't. Picking up unwanted, cheap, random, mediocre boomboxes is fun! In the end, they make for quite a unique collection... not your typical assortment of grails, mind you (who needs another collector with a houseful of M90's?), but a collection of rarities and rescues (not unlike stray cats) that can be displayed and enjoyed with pride!

Most of the time, I don't bother sniping these little gems. I put in a minimum "mercy bid" (translation: I just don't want them to end up unsold) and forget about it. Which means that usually my winning bid notice comes as a surprise. ("I don't remember bidding on this. Did someone steal my eBay ID??") But these minor-league boxes are a delight to own and a thrill to scoop up at giveaway prices. Plus, most of the time, they don't sound half bad! Snagging them really makes you feel like you "beat the system."

And, just to prove it, I'm going to go now and listen to my black, three-piece, not-very-big Pulser (from Canadian Tire) 1467! It rocks. Sort of. :-D

The sound is not even remotely close to either. It will sound like it feels...cheap. Sony put out a lot of useless stuff when it came to boxes during this time period. BUT...if you want something you can beat the hell out of and not worry 'bout salt water...use the Sony. :-D

For $21, so what if it's cheap? It WAS cheap!! Be happy if it works. Modern eggs and iPod docks sound worse, and they AREN'T cheap! Heck, I just spent a bunch more than $21 for fireworks for next weekend. And I'm literally going to burn those up!

:agree:
even if oldy is right --
the $21 is so well worth having a careless 'beach box'
and it sure does not look very heavy :-)

I don't bid like that any more Ira, I can't. :nonono:
Space at my place and my sanity cross paths to easily and right now my sanity is being pushed, I'm currently working on downsizing by ridding my self of junkers.

I will admit it can be fun to win a box that costs next to nothing, the excitement is worth the $20.

I bought a Panasonic 3 pc. at the thrift store once ( the ONLY boombox I've ever seen at a thrift store down here), just because it looked like new and was cheap ($9), now it just sits on a shelf cause I have no interest in it at all. I think even if the price is great you shouldn't just buy a box to buy it because it is cheap, than it may end up like mine just sitting and being ignored.

you are right , tony -
if this one sounds just boring --
then it wont get used here--
and end up as a give-away --

but --somebody will end up happy with it :-)

only bought one on E-bay and it was a great deal ( Aiwa 600 $26 mint condition)
Now that's a really sweet deal, the 600 is one of the nicest boxes with only a Tone control.
I picked up my like new 600 (needs belts) on ebay for $60 if I remember right and I thought that was a screaming deal but yours beats that.

I agree. For $20, you can get it, touch it, turn it on, listen for a while, and throw it out. It won't matter. Or better yet, donate it to the Salvation Army, so they can make a little money and some thrift store junkie can buy it and put it on eBay for $50... and probably get it!!

The life cycle of the boombox, modern electronics don't get recycled like these old boomers.

Store up all of your $5 deals and give them out like candy for trick-or-treat.
