Hello, I recently picked up a pretty clean Magnavox D-8443 boom box at a flea market for $2. The radio works fine but the tape cassette is not working. I push play and nothing happens, I don't hear anything spinning. I'm trying to get the in line aux to work in order to hook Jong iPad. Also when you put batteries in it won't power up, only when plugged in. Any help is appreciated

Welcome...Unfortunatly most of the Magnavox have this problem with the deck  It could be something like a bad belt or I have seen a few that the gear inside is stripped or broke which then makes the deck useless :sadno: The input only works if the deck is in play/record mode...It is not a very good input so if this is what you purchased it for maybe you best look for something else  Sorry to discourage you but you did get a great deal on it...post up some pics   :-D

Awesome, thank you for your quick reply. Is there anyway to bypass the tape deck to get the aux in line to work? Sorry if that's a dumb question, yeah I passed on a Mint Lasonic 930 a few weeks ago for $50 :-/ oh well this stuff is still out there. Again thanks for the reply and do you know of any ways to trouble shoot and eliminate the possibilities?

Even if the motor was dead or the belt was broken, the line in should still work. Make sure the switch on the side is set to "line in".
The switch built into the ac jack could be the "not working on batteries" problem.
Might need to open her up and do some cleaning. Just a few ideas.

I believe the way to bypass deck is through inside of box on deck there is a micro switch that will turn input on when deck is put in play/record mode. You may be able to hook an exterior switch to replace the micro switch :hmmm:
