Anybody got a cassette drive or whole junker Panasonic RX-5050?
I got a minty one from a member here, but the cassette drive is junk. I'm thinking that it got jammed and burnt out the motor. :-/
Thanks in advance. :-D :-D

skippy that panasonic is one of my favorites but i belive they killed it with the 15v cassette motor :sadno: as most of the big boxes have 12v motors for the cassettes decks they should have designed it with that in mind :-)

Not sure, is this mecha the same as the RXC45 ? ... isn't it ?.
I have the 5055, and the same as Ramon said. It has a 15V motor. The motor works, but the speed changes a bit.
I would have changed if I had a new one.
But, forget about it. Any 12V motor with a 3V zener in serieswill work. Also 9V motor with 7809 regulator most work.
keep in mind to put a heat sink (you can use the mecha itself as a heatsink) for the regulator.

Hi Brett.
Yes I got a good motor from member "Matrixambience" ,but now as I was playing a tape and it sounded great for a few minutes then the mechanism locked up and it won't play now. It will fast forward and rewind ,but no play or record.
A RX-C45 mechanism might be the same,I'm not sure though. Do you have a junker RX-C45?
Thanks. :-)

No. The only RXC45 I have is fully working.
But you have another choices to find a donor.
Anyway this mecha is well made. Pretty sure that if you put new belts and motor, it will work again.
The only reason to change the deck drive could be a broken shaft, since it's near impossible to find this spare.

well that adding of the zener in series looks like it might sound like a good choice and if the moter goes you would not have to worry,, i think when mine goes south i would go that route     :ninja:

The motor works fine Ramon,it's the !@#$%ing tape mechanism. I can't figure out why it won't work right. It's like it is bent or warped, or something. The tape heads won't raise and lower without sicking in the play position.I've had it apart and lubed everything so many times. I just figure it would be easier to get a different tape mechanism than waste my time and patience..... :annoyed:  :evilmad: :ls-duel: :catfight:

oh ok i was thinking it was a motor problem ok then well that would be the way to go if you could get it cheap i belive that the c50 shares that same deck and the c60 there may be other panny that might share that deck we would have to find out which other ones would work its strange that it will not go in play something must be something broke or missing a piece or a spring ,,anything is a torment :annoyed:   :-)

Hey skippy, you still looking for a working 5050?
I have one available that is 100% functional it's just a little rough around the edges. Seems like the perfect match!
I was going to use it to fix my 5085 but I'm not sure if they use the same tape mech. Anybody know what motor the 5985 uses, would it be the same as the 5050? If not, I'll offer it to you. It would be nice to fix up a prime box like yours.
Here's some pics. PM me if your interested.
Peace,
Paul Z.
