Hi All,
My Sony ZX-7 has started playing too fast.
When it happens, all operations are speeded up, Ffwd, Rew, the lot. You can hear the motor running faster than normal.
If switched off & left it behaves for a while & then off it goes again at hyper-speed.

I have the service manual but it looks like a sod to work on.
Anyone got any ideas for me?

Oh, also when moving along the tuner dial it crackes alot. you can still tune into stations fine, but touch the dial & it crackles like mad.
Again, any ideas?

Thanks in advance if anyone can help :-)

unless the motor has its speed controller.. gone bad which is on the motor itself on some it can be on the main board ,,, so i would only suguest if you can to open her up look at the top of cassette motor for a small hole that there is the adjustment pot ,, you can adjust that but if its going out of whack more than likely eventully you will need to replace :-)

Soak that tuner sucka with spray ....
Its probably gone knackered because you had it in your bathroom, as I recall.
all the TP paper dust and whatnot. :-D

yes just as i suspected its not your regular motor on these boxes it has a outboard circuit for the motor even the motor is of unique design ,, so i guess the servo drive board is the culprit :sadno:

I stick with the fact that is has too much toilet paper dust on the capstan and therefore because of the
unique design of this unit interacting with the unique qualities of British TP, Paul is having speed issues....

I too thought of the speed control adjust, however, it plays just fine sometimes & then intermittently goes bananas with the speed - far too fast for the gentle adjustment of motor control to compensate for.
I fear (like Nicolle's) that it's some control circuitry that's way beyond me...

Like yr Avatar Ed :-)
You could be right Ed, however it's my mini Sansui that's live in out bathroom for years now - without fault, I might add. I know what you mean about a bathroom being a hostile environment, however, the room itself is large & has an enormous extractor fan (fitted by previous owner), & so almost never steams up. The worst that's happened is when someone put a little bottle of perfume (or something) on top of the Sansui & it left a ring-mark on the plastic of the tape door. I went a bit mad when I saw that...!

Next time I take it apart I'll clean up the tuner board. I got it cheap & it was pretty filthy when it arrived. It's construction meant I haven't been in every area inside to clean it...

which Eddy is this Nicolle?

If anyone can tell me what the problem is I can probably fix it. It's the diagnosis part I can't do... :-)
