I've got several nice boomboxes over the past few months-1 Akai and 2 Sony CFD- boomboxes.

So here are some photos of them.

I've actually always wanted an Akai boombox of some type. They seem to be pretty rare. Hmm...Interesting you would find two Sony boomboxes with model numbers so similar.Does the bass reflex of the " V " add to its sound or is it just a styling feature of the box?How does its bass compare to the standard CFD-10?

As for the CFD-10,I have two very similar models. The CFD-808 and CFD-17 (auto-reverse).These do not have the round CD window on the lid. Also the analog tuner window is just above the right side top tuning wheel on my models. It is a neat rotary dial with frequency markings around its circumference behind a window no wider than the actual tuner control wheel right below it. In place of the wide tuner on the front of yours, that space is occupied by a digital CD readout window and the CD controls on my versions of this box.The cassette doors are not offset but are centered between the speakers on mine.

I've actually seen a version of your box with chrome capped speakers before.Your CFD-10 appears to have soft cloth domes instead.Oddly,Both of mine have "whizzer" style miniature cones protruding from the center areas of each speaker.I've not seen these on very many boomboxes before."Whizzers" are supposed to help produce more highs without the need for extra drivers. My boxes do seem to have a lot of sharpness to the highs but they are a little on the harsh side.Does your CFD-10 have the "Mega Bass" feature? Both of mine have it but it doesn't sound very good.It just sounds distorted to my ears. The box sounds much better without this button engaged.

I've seen this basic CFD style box in a number of versions. It's interesting to see the different versions. They must have sold a lot of them. Thanks for sharing pictures of yours along with the "V" version of it and the interesting looking Akai!

Jovie, thanks for sharing some interesting information about models that are similar to the CFD-10.

The bass reflex body does improve the sound on the CFD-V10 quite a bit.

My CFD-10 does not feature Mega Bass-but a similar model, the CFD-12 does.

Both models are covered in the operating instructions:
http://docs.sony.com/release/CFD10.PDF

The CFD-V10 is a later model-from 1997.

Also, the CFD-V10 does not have any play modes for CD's, unlike the CFD-10 which does.

Seen in white that Akai looks to be a pretty unique style for a box.Despite what the quality might or might not be on that particular model you just don't see a whole lot of boomboxes by Akai on Ebay.

Nice color scheme on your "7".The turquoise inset is particularly nice.Given my bad (though very limited) experiences with the yellow Megabass button on my standard CFD series boxes,I'm interested in knowing how tight the bass is on your "7" with the yellow button engaged.
