i bought this sharp of ebay last week, you cant really see in the photo but its filthy. i'll be cleaning it as i go along. it looks to be in excellent cosmetic condition.

this is it when it arrived this morning

it had a fault with it, which was only 1 speaker was working, but ive almost got that sorted with some tips from JVC floyd and 2Steppa. ive sprayed the switches and sliders with switch cleaner. now both speakers are working again, with the exception of using auxillary, but its getting there. :D

the right speaker is quite badly distorted, so i'll be replacing them both with modern units at some point, and i'll be spray painting the grilles gloss black as well because theyre faded with spots of surface rust

should be adding to this over the next week

It is not recommended to use WD-40 for cleaning pots and switches. :nonono: WD-40 might work temporarily and definitely make things move more smoothly, but it attracts dust. It will need a cleaning with DeOxit or a similar contact cleaner.

:agree: i would use regular electronics cleaner/spray like deoxit or electronics cleaner lubricant that you can buy at radio shack ,nice to see you got it opened up and took some pics .

1st update:

iv'e cleaned the corrosion from the cassette heads last night and both decks now play and record in perfect sound quality. :breakdance:

the auxillary is still a bit touch and go. it works ok for 10 - 15 mins, then sound cuts out. But when i wiggle the function switch and turn the unit back on, it will work again. so now that i know which switch is causing the problem, i can pay it more attention. i'll see how that goes later :hmmm:

btw, would anyone know what year this dates from?? aso, am i right in thinking that the 575 were 32 watt? because this one is rated at 45 :hmmm:

cheers

45w will be the power consumption and unless stated specifically the wattage on the rating plate NEVER indicates audio power. I would imagine the 575 is somewhere in the region of 4 or 5 watts rms per channel. Unless anybody has the spec sheet? :hmmm:

i think this is where the confusion came from. i saw this one on the site somewhere with its repro graphics, which say 32watt, whereas mine has 45watt on the rear plate. its all good, though, i just have more power than i thought

and thought, maybe the decals are just on the wrong model :hmmm:

and heres the backplate:

Lol that first pic of the 575 you posted Sean is my pic on my car bonnet!!

Someone must have photoshopped the stickers/decals on to the image :-P

Yes, that 32w is probably referring to peak power or some measurement that has no relevance in the real world.

Hey Sean, that 32W is for the PMPO rating - not the actual audio output. For more information on PMPO, go here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_power

and scroll down to the PMPO section. :-)

For comparison, the GF-777Z has a PMPO rating of 90W, but actual maximum audio output is really closer to 28W. ;-)

 2steppa, your 575 is mint mate, hopefully mine shouldnt be too far off condition wise, by the time ive finished cleaning it. unfortunately the original speakers in mine need to be replaced due to the distortion in the left

Fatdog: thanks for the link :-D

hi, yes i did swap them around. one speaker is sounding good still, but the other is very distorted indeed

- with the shiny grills back on it. it really does make a difference to the look of the box
