Problem with JVC DC-7 Boom Box, turntable portion

Hello fellow boom box lovers! I am having a problem with a JVC DC-7 boom box. I was all set to buy it from a seller who had replaced the belts on the tape deck and got the turntable portion working well. After playing it it for a while a problem developed. The automatic function would move the arm to the LP and it would play for 20 sec or so. Then the arm would move and scratch across the entire LP! No mater when the guy tried it would do the same thing!

The Tech spent a lot of time getting it to work, but then the problem mentioned above developed.

What do you think the problem is?

Has anyone experienced this problem with a JVC DC-7 or 33L TT? IF so what caused it and how did you fix it?

Sounds like a tracking sensitivity adjustment out of whack. You'll need to get a service manual to correct it.

Hope you fix it but if you can't, I would LOVE to buy the handle from you.

Thank you for the advise! I found a place appears to sell the service book. I will call them and find out. Hopefully I can the monster fixed and spinning at 33 and 45RPM!

hi, i have a problem with the turntable also...

when i push left, right or the drop/lift needle button nothing happens... is this normal? just got it, free, no manual or anything

The turntable starts automatically when you begin to play it. Likely, the belt or motor for the arm is broken. If it fails to start, it will not switch to phono.

The record/playback function is switched by a large PCB mounted bar switch. Cleaning it might correct that issue if the internal contacts have oxidized/corroded. However, if that's not the case, then perhaps the boombox has been molested before. If the linkage is not properly actuating the switch, it will not switch to record function.

Unfortunatly, this is a very complicated boombox and not for a beginner to work on. Even pros will not like to work on this guy.
