JVC RC-838 DIN plug not working?

I picked up an RC-838L today and the DIN socket doesn't work for playing ipods etc with. I have a DIN to 3.5mm cable, any idea what's wrong? I guess something's loose inside

It might be one of those where you have to be recording before line-in is activated.

I considered that but the record button won't work also phono input works but DIN doesn't - just need to get a 3.5 to phono adaptor now. on the bright side, i can play my xbox through the boombox

if you have a cassette inside the deck unless the deck is not working you should be able to press record, unless the deck is locked out,, but some boxes need to be in record ,, plus i noticed that when i use my ipod i would use it in phono for some odd reason it works better but not all boxes will do that ....

Shouldn't need to record. This particular model has true line-in and phono-in playback features.

I'll grab a 3.5mm to phono cable and see if that works then, should do...
