The belts on this deck were melted to gears so I will be replacing them but the ??? is seeing this deck is a mechanical logic control will it not work until there are belts or will something move (maybe motor)

The motor should run with out belts, however it might not stop if you try it by pushing the play button. The mechanism needs to cycle in order to release the power switch.
