My neighbor has a Sony CFS 88S with a slightly defective power on/off button. The button only works when you push it in very gently. If you push hard on the button you only get static. Can anyone give me any information on this problem. Does he need a new switch or is it just a bit of dirt or something on the contacts.

My neighbor seems to think I know something about radios since I am a ham radio operator. I didn't want to spoil the illusion so I agreed to look at it for him. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome Shark!

You better tell your neighbor to ship it to me immediately before he electrocutes himself.

Seriously I'm not familiar with the switch in that box but lets do the simple stuff first. A little treatment of De-Oxit or any contact cleaner my resolve his issue, hopefully so because if it won't that likely means disassembly of the boombox, some others here familiar with this box will likely chime in for you.

welcome to the site and i agree totally with masterblaster you might be able to just squirt some deoxit on that switch, and if you can on the funtion switch also  but you will have to take it apart that way you can get to those switches
