I have taken on another messy box (well worthy of a restoration).
This has got to have been the dirtiest smelliest smoke riddled boombox
I have ever worked on.
Heck there were dead roach carcuses and all kinds of nasty crap going on in there.
I have about eight hours into it so far and have much more to do.
What I have accomplished so far.
1. Dis-assemble box , pull sub chassis from case.
2. clean lube and re-belt the deck
3. Fix two hairline cracks in the body and repair a mounting point for the cassette key protection bar.
4. straighten every switch at the top of the box.
5. Straighten bent tuner knob shaft.
6. Clean and polish all the chrome.
7. Clean front case .
8. Mask sand and paint body 1st coat .
9. Un-smash speaker grilles
10.Sand and paint speaker grilles 1st coat.
11. Re color speakers white.
12. Paint all black screws and casette deck back plate.
Things left to do.
1. Wet sand and second coat body and speaker grilles
2. Straighten carry handle (its Warped) Heat???
3. Put washers in handle hinges to prevent handle slamming down.
4. De-ox and lube all switches and knobs.
5. clean and inspect all circuit boards.
6. Clean Back case (body)
7. Replace antennas. ( get new ones) hopefully
8. Clean and polish battery terminals and springs(corroded on positive side)
9. Polish all clear plastic
10 . Re assemble and test all.
11. Adjust or align heads (if necessary)
Whew!!!
Here are some before and afters
BTW I have found the (perfect) Paint for silver bodied boxes.
Its Krylon color code to be posted later it is a matte aluminum color and it is great!!
