question about the 'very gold' m71 in this avitar ??
for all you graphics members --

long before electronic photo tuning --
there were real live
hands on artists painting negatives, etc --

this old jvc ad --was from way back in those days--

i have been thru three m71s --all three looked identical to each other-
but they looked nothing like this avitar model-

in the 'real' they are a very subtle light gold tint -
even much less gold than marantz stuff-
sort of a titanium look.

so asking --can you tell from this ad -that its color has been altered ??

It's definitely possible that the brochure picture has been "enhanced" to make it appear more goldish. However, it is probably even more possible that the gold on the M71s you've had has simply worn thin (gold chrome trim). Chrome plating on plastic is actually vacuum metalized aluminum and is usually an average of 8 to 20 microns in thickness (10 Microns = 0.00001 Meters). The gold coloring is actually a dye and is no doubt susceptible to fading over a period time. Just my $.02.

I think the best way to know for sure is to find a NIB, factory sealed M71.

As with most vintage boomboxes the color tends to fade.
Id imagine the box in your avatar is the original color
because the photo was taken when it was brand new.
My 2 cents.

I'm no expert, and I've never seen a brand new M71 or M75, but I can tell you that neither my 71 or 75 has bright gold trim like in the promo photo. Whether the photo was enchanced or the real boxes have faded is anybody's guess. I kind of opt for enchancement, since I've never seen such bright gold on a JVC. Adding color to photos was possible even then.

On the other hand, the most-elusive-of-all, Japanese M70GX appears not only to have actual bright gold trim, but goldish speaker grilles and a goldish handle. Go figure!

ahha !!

thanks for dropping in , bsl -
all 3 of my m71s had that exact 'almost gold' look in your big top picture -
so i am now also opting for the touch-up.

and that elusive/exclusive GX job -- is something ELSE --wow !!

I didnt photoshop this pic.
I believe this to belong to Rambo but I may be wrong.
I found this pic a while back when I was on the hunt for one.

Actually, that's my front porch... so that must be my M71. I see what you're pointing out, though. The gold trim is really... well... gold. Conclusion: it's all in the lighting. Bright natural light reflecting on the trim seems to bring out the gold color. Indoors, it's not nearly so vibrant.

That gold M71 is gorgeous! I wonder what ever happened to S2G member nomadik? Was that his name? He had one of those also.

I should try to photograph my M75 out on the porch, too. See if the trim looks more gold. I'll bet it does.

Ira... take your M71 outside, put it in direct sunlight, and see what happens.

ok ---yipee - the sun popped out -
so here is the 'inside' scoop :-) on the m71 color :::

the first shot is the REAL color --much more titanium than gold.
the next shot is all 'juiced up' :-D
the last one --is in a different light -with 'double juice' :w00t:

for my own dull taste
i much prefer the subtle color on picture #1-
and thats how these really do look.

so - thanks all - for viewing my 'science -at-work' experiment
:judge:
