Hello,

Does anyone know the OEM motor mfr, part number or specs for the motor in the Sanyo M9990. My deck is having extreme speed fluctuation issues that do not appear to be related to the belts at all. Motor seems to be the culprit.

Any info on how to score a new motor for this box would be greatly appreciated. And potentially rewarded with a mixtape!

I'm trying to get this one to 100% before the meet in March. (yea, I'm a procrastinator with too many projects!)

I have a couple of Sanyos that I don't listen to at all. One of them is an M9935. I wonder if most Sanyo motors are the same? :hmmm:

I just had a talk with the Tech who is working to repair the GF-666's weak channel issue. I called him to find out what's up with that one and to order the four belts for the Sanyo. That piqued his curiousity, so I told him I was changing some speakers and looking in the guts of a 1978 Sanyo that works really good, except for really erratic tape spead. After I told him the symptoms he confirmed that it sounded like a motor issue. But then........, he busted out some kind of cross reference manual and casually told me to get a motor with the number EG530AD-2B. His supplier doesn't have it in stock right now, but I should be able to quickly source the part.

So..., you can find a brand=spankin' new motor that will work in the Sanyo M9990 for $12.50 approx. five items down the URL below. That motor looks pretty much exactly like the one in my Sanyo right now that .:

http://www.smcelectronics.com/motor.htm

There was another site that had a motor like that for $1.50, but with a $200 minimum order.

Yea, I really want these boxes to work properly the next time you guys see them!

Hey Freddie, the PC-3's original speakers have been re-coned too...

Chi Chi, it looks like that particular motor has been discontinued - according to SSE.

EG530AD-2B
$8.95 12 volts CCW*

DISCONTINUED - NO LONGER AVAILABLE

John, I'll take a look at my Sanyos when I get a chance tomorrow and see what motors are in them. If one is a match, you can have it.

Thanks, Bobby. but, I already ordered a brand-spankin' new one. It was a very reasonable $17 shipped. Thanks a bunch for the offer, though.

FYI: on that GF-666, the tech found some solder spots that had small stress cracks. It should work properly the next time you see it.

I also got the re-coned speakers into freddy's former JVC PC-3. Sounds much better now!

Lots to do to get ready for the meet!!

I have been looking for a motor for my Sanyo M9935K, since mine has speed issues as well, and it is not going well. I had ordered one from Studio Sound, the EG530AD-9F, and the motor was bad. It ran slow and the speed adjustment pot had not effect. They were going to send me a replacement and decided to test the replacement before shipping it out and guess what---it was bad as well. Their whole lot was bad.

It appears, to them, that Mabuchi dumped their last batch of bad motors on them and that particular motor has been discontinued by Mabuchi. SMelectronics doesn't carry the motor I need but I hope your new motor works well. If it works well it might be a good idea to order some backups since they have been discontinued.

Anyone know if hobby shops sell motors that might work on these boomboxes?

UPDATE:

I ended up being able to update the belts and make the box sing. The new replacement motor I got is much smaller than the one that was in the box???? So, I never bothered to put it in... a previous owner had obviously put in new belts, but they were too thin and not up to spec compared with the new ones I put in. Also, the motor that was in there was very loose. I know they should have some play, but this one was way too lose. I used a thin washer to tighten up the holding bolts and reassembled.

Man, getting to the belts in the M9990 is a total BEEEEAAAATTTTCCCHHHH!

But, it was worth the effort.

Sanyo M9990 plays tapes (just a hair slow) but all deck functions react strongly and it sounds great!
