Hi-First my Panasonic 680 works great, just sometimes on tape 1 in forward motion after playing a couple of tapes does the belt act up.No problem in reverse modes on both decks.
I have a boombox 6" screwdriver that has worked on opening all of my boomboxes that need some repair BUT the darn thing needs a 7"-crazy! :-O
I was also going to ask how is it getting to the belts when opening this thing up?
Any tricks-looks like the front comes off.
I have to get a whole new scredriver just to open it up.
It's not bad though-just want to get belts in the soon future & clean-er up inside.
The radio & CD are very nice and this thing will kind of scare you!! I mean at 7 on the volume this morning it's just crazy!! :w00t:
BTW-does anyone have a remote for one?? I need one!
Let me know your findings on this if you could.
Have a great weekend-GB. :-)

Yes you will need a longer driver to access the screws. BE VERY CAREFUL not to press and slip the screws sideways in the wells. What you will notice when you open it up is the wells have slots on the sides at the bottom of the screw wells. If it slips in there you will not be able to engage the head of the screw and possibly punch the PCB board.

All that aside getting at the belts is not too bad. However, if the deck is acting up it is more likely the leaf contacts that are the culprit. I'm at work now so I'll have to send pics later. :-)

Hi Freddie-I did clean those little tabs inside the cassette doors on the topside w/rubbing alcohol.
I thought I had heard that these needed cleaning.
Here's what's going on.
Tape 1
In forward mode after a while the 2nd spool(take up spool) stops and then tries to eat the tape-it stops though when this starts.
Tape 1
The reverse mode works perfect-Yes!!
Tape 2
In forward mode it works really good but towards the end of the tape it sounds like it''s warbling, like not quite playing right and sometimes will stop before the end of the tape.No eating though.
Tape 2
In reverse mode-eats tapes quite nicely or should I say badly! :-O
At least it will still play tapes but I would like to fix it better.
Pause does not work on either tape but when you have 2 tapes in the record will work-strange!
Any ideas-I thought cleaning and maybe new belts?
It's still quite listenable but want it to work better.
I think remote might make some thing work better!?

CD/Tuner section-Beautiful-works perfectly.
Also-Have no remote.I noticed a couple of things-tape length button doesn't seem to display anything when pushed.
Let me know if anyone has had similar problems or any ideas greatly appreciated-Thanks-GB. :-O :hmmm: :-)

if you need a super long phillips screw driver i believe if you go to a bike shop you can get a phillips with a nine inch shaft and a t handle pretty easily.
i have one in my tool kit and thats were it came from.
it has been a really awesome tool that i have used for many things.
cheap too.
i think mine is made by park tool

Thanks Bill-that's a good idea.
I think at the auto store where I bought mine they have a 7 or 8" also.
But if not I'll try your idea-Thanks-GB. :-)
