Hi all,

I'm new here. I have a GF-9696 which was all working great, then one day I appeared to lose all audio output - regardless of whether the Tape, Radio, Aux etc inputs were selected. There was just a fairly quiet white noise coming out, regardless of the settings. Then I found out, if I hit the play button on the tape deck, a very deep sound comes out - like the sound of an audio recording played back at slow speed. If I then stop the tape deck, the other inputs are all good (!). Ie. if I then switch to the radio - it works great. Often, if I later turn the power off, come back to it later and turn it on, it's the same thing again. I have to first hit the play button on the tape deck - to get the system 'in to gear' so to speak.

Any ideas what is going on here and how I can properly fix it?

Kind regards,

Thomas.

I believe it could be a bad soldering at the back of the PC board. It lifts off, disconnect and cause issues.

Let me look for my link about it.

Here it is.... go to page 2. See that two copper wire connections? In my case one of them lifted off/ disconnected.
You have to get behind the main PC board to fix it. Just remove screws holding the main PC board and carefully slide it to the front. No need to disconnect any wired from the PC board except the plugs for the cassette mechanism.
both the boards and somehow break off at the solder joint from flexing)

I removed the two copper wires ( you can see them next to the plastic tie in the picture. They are rigid wire lines connecting ) and then used flexible wired and re soldered it. Problem was solved!
