Spending time with boomboxes confined at home
in these hard, empty, sad and gloomy days that all mankind
is going through is among one of the best ways to trick your mind and escape from all that
spirit crushing news coming from every corner of the planet we are all living.

I spend some time today with a quite rare monophonic
boombox i found locally about 2 months ago.
Bought it for the amount of 5 euros. The mono Boombox is a JVC Nivico 9501W.

I remember i saw it at a flea market back in the year 2015 but i havent purchased it
because i was probably picky back then or the price wasnt right or because i was snob with monos.
Here is a pic of the stall i saw it : (From this stall i got the sanyos and not the NiViCo)

Havent forgot it though and since then i was on the lookout to find one.
It had a striking appearance and i regreted for not getting it. Ofcourse after a
week the seller sold it to someone else and that was it, it was gone.

When i saw it at a thrift store for that price, i grabbed it and brought it back home.
Didnt have the time to properly clean it and make it work again with new belts.
up until today when at last sunshine made an appearance on Attica.

I know some of you are not into monos but this one has all the proper specs,
It has separate bass and treble and ofcourse a line in feature. Its quite Big
and the usual curved and straight JVC lines are simply irresistible and hard to be ignored.

Great find as usual Deech!

You're absolutely right that in these trying times, a fun, musical diversion is the perfect medication. Did the Demo tape come with it?

Its a Nice mono indeed and for 5 euros i have just grabbed it and put it in a bag !

Geoff the demo tape is another find, i put it infront of it for adding a bit of a style!

Judging by the look of the unit i d say its made in the late 70s like other more
well known radios from JVC, the 838 or the 828.
Anyone having a catalogue about portables from JVC 1978? 1979? or a link ?

Well that tape does add some serious style for sure! I'm sure that radio is from the late 70's just by the design. I wonder if you opened it up, a time stamp would be imprinted on the chassis?

Second Boombox i did work while on lockdown as most of us, a mini Sanyo.
Found it more than a year ago and it kept me occupied for the last 2 days
cleaning it and changing a belt for it.
I ve said it before and i ll say it again,
it is such a rewarding feeling to listen and look at a radio working
as it should after you spend time with it.
This is a Sanyo M-7300L in grey , a basic radio but i think its not so common,
there are not many pics and infos on the web.
Hope you guys like it !!

So i cleaned and worked on a Super Jumbo Sound PC -173 a Lloyd's PT-003 aka
which is a very big but empty black box. Its beautiful though.
This how it looked before.

A pic on how it looks inside.
IMG_20200413_160512.jpg

It still needs work (paint the speakers white, find a matching tape door for Deck B',
found a generic plastic tape door for this deck which is a temporarily solution, and change a belt)
but i ll leave it as it is for now.
No such stores to find what is needed are opened for business anyway!

Works on FM and on tape so it could do with that.

Youtube doesnt allow me to add the sound of dirty deeds from the ac/dc tape
but you can check the video.

Beautiful box Deech! Although we had Lloyd's components here in Canada, I never remember seeing this boombox? Weird. The lack of interior components isn't shocking though.

I also can't hear any audio on the video of it playing, except at the start. Was there a problem? The AC/DC video sounds great!...Good choice in tunes!!!
