I drove from San Diego up to LA today to grab a deal on a Crown CSC-350L, and I plan to do a full restoration. So far I've fixed the inputs, but the speakers are completely disintegrated and need replacing.

The speakers measure 12CM in diameter (just under 5") with 12CM mounting hardware spacing. 8ohm 6-15W. It has two active speakers and two passive radiators, but I guess I'd like to go with all active speakers if possible.

There is easily enough depth in the speaker compartments to fit 8cm deep speakers, since the compartment is designed to fit a black foam baffle behind the speakers.

Any suggestions on what speakers to put in it? My first idea was to put two 8ohm speakers in parallel on each side, unless I'm overlooking something.

Great call, I just ordered the foam. Thanks! I measured with calipers and found a set of foam on eBay that seems to be a perfect match.

Sold as 4 3/4" to 5" Speaker Foam with these specs:
inside diameter of foam
3 1/4 inches, angled - 82mm

inside roll diameter and cone diameter of spk
3 1/2 inches - 89mm

outside roll diameter of surround
4 1/8 inch - 105mm

outside diameter of surround
4 and 9/16 inch - 116mm

The 350L's metal speaker frames have an outside diameter of 119mm, and the passive radiators are the exact same cone so the same foam size will work for both.

Hope they fit!
Some prefer to swap out and some prefer to try keep original, it's a matter of deciding which you are :)

As long as you have tested the resistance across the speaker to be a close match for their rating then you know they are 100% worth saving. Good luck!

The surrounds I linked above have incorrect measurements in their description. They leave a 2mm gap. Unfortunately I started to glue one without realizing that, since they looked like a perfect match when I started.

Update: Actually, it might just work.

I finished re-foaming the speakers & radiators. It took about an hour per, but the results are great. They sound excellent and the 350 is back in action after a week of work. I'll start another thread on the full restore and an LED mod I came up with for it.

Those foams I lined above did work after all, but just barely.

Nice, this is definitely a box worth saving. Very rare and unique. A Pioneer SK-900 on a budget.

I like your clocks - this with lamps and the second russian "ЕЛЕКТРОНИКА".
Where do you buyed this russian clock in USA?
How it works - russians use 220v?

Thanks, I got the Elektronika-7 on eBay from Russia and restored it. It is 220V, so I use a 110-to-220V step up transformer with it and my other Russian clocks. It has a max draw of 4-5W, so you don't need a big converter for it.

You can buy these foams on eBay all you have to know is the size of the one that's on there already to compare it to the one you're buying. You're always better off repairing the original speakers because they are higher quality but the foams are old at lower quality. If you use rubber surrounds you have to use rubber glue
.
