I just changed the belts in my 5259.
It sounds great and the FF and rwd functions work great but I'm having a problem with the MLS function.
When I pick a number of songs to skip (1, 2 or3) and hit the FF or rwd buttons, it activates but never finds the song and will continue until it hits the beginning or end of the tape.
Has anyone ever had and fixed this problem?
Also, when I select 1, 2 or 3, the corresponding LED is bright but when I press the FF or rwd buttons, it gets dim.
Is that normal?
I'd appreciate any help.

I wouldn't worry about this feature you must use Retail Tapes with a gap between each track.

Hey hopey.
I ended up putting this back together.
I know this isn't a feature that's really used a lot but hate not having everything in working condition.
I am using original store bought tapes that have the "gaps" and other boxes have located songs on.

For future reference, I ended up replacing the caps on the MLS board and also readjusted the contacts on the cassette player.
Now it works great.

Yep.
Couple of bad caps but replaced all of them while I was there.
Also, I must've bent the contacts when I was cleaning them.
The upper contacts are supposed to remain together when you press the ff or rew buttons when the cassette is playing (activating the MLS).
The heads & contacts drop slightly when ff or rew is pressed and my contacts were opening.
In my original post I noted that the 1, 2 or 3 LED would dim when I pressed ff or rew, that's because the contacts were opening.
Once adjusted, the LEDs stayed bright.
