Hitachi TRK-9140W

Hi all,

Just bought a Hitachi TRK-9140E on eBay with the cassette non working. Have changed the belts which were gunk! And it’s working albeit with a reduced hf output. On examination of the playback head it appears to be the problem as it’s rough and pitted. Anybody know where I can source a replacement head? Am based in the UK.

You could try cleaning it with alcohol. Vinegar can also help if it is rusty, but always wash it off afterwards with alcohol. If you have nothing to lose, I have had success with Brasso metal polish on an Aiwa, although I do not recommend this as an easy fix solution.
