These speakers are covered with something that probably came from someone's pet. I can't confirm that this will clean off or not, but I know the speakers are good and the surrounds are still in tact. Being a poly coated woofer, I bet this would clean off. What's strange is they don't smell, which is good.

Here's a pair of Yamaha NS220RM woofers that close to the ones in the picture you posted.  The listing doesn't mention ohm rating, so might work well with the M90 - or they might not.

The front of the cone paper is urethane coated. I think it can be cleaned, but the dust cap vacuum metallized area is practically impossible to  cleanup, but dust caps can be easily replaced. Bro JVC Floyd would have better suggestions.

They're painted, Royce. From the outside.

I lost a fair amount of paint on one of mine from water damage.

Hi Eric, That is correct!

It got a thin layer of acrylic or urethane coating on the front side. Water will attack/soak from the back, and ruin the paper with thin coating on the front side.

They put that layer of coating to make it more rigid.

I would use a non chemical based cleaner on the cones , I have used windex to clean these and it doesn't strip off the coating. Also using a fine bristle round shaped paint brush to help scrub the crud off and use a damp cloth to dab the cones dry.

Is the paint applied before or after the urethane coating?

Actually, I was referring to the dustcaps.
