Sharp VZ2000 cassette repair

just spent a few hours repairing the cassette on my VZ. RW FF and the APSS system was lazy and not really working, i realised the rubber on the RW FF reels was hard and shinny so it wouldn't grip the drive shaft. I bought a can of RRR rubber roller restorer and stripped the unit and removed the rubber bands from the plastic idle wheels, soaked them for a few mins then cleaned with a cloth. Resembled the unit and it now works perfectly.....

I thought the rollers would have been brittle and break up as it was quite difficult getting them off the plastic reels but even after 35 year they came off ok and now look and feel like rubber again.....RRR really does work so if your rubber rings on the reels on your unit needs fixing, i can recommend RRR.

I did measure all the rubber rings with a dial gauge and I'm going to look see if i can get some spares.

there's 3 reels in the VZ unit 2 for the APSS and one at the front of the unit.
