This boombox is a beauty and I'm trying to save it. I fixed the infamous plastic piece in the tape deck, cleaned and lubed the moving parts and installed new belts - tape deck works perfectly. My problem is the radio. It gets poor reception most of the time (FM), but sometimes has moments of absolute perfection. It fades away and sometimes fades in, then fades away. I took it to a repair shop and they said the IF circuit was out of tolerance and that they couldn't fix it - paid $60 to find that out.
I'd like to find a donor boombox with a good circuit board, but have not found another of this model - guess it's a rare one. I'm hoping that another more common boombox has the same circuit board. Does anyone know?
