Just picked this up. Traded it for a mint GF-777z. No it’s not a typo. Guy who had it asked for it. I think I did what anybody else would have so hell yea I drove over to this guys house and picked it up. It wasn’t hard to let go my GF after seeing this beast of a radio. She’s 95% complete. (Missing 2 switch lever covers) but other than that she looked great. We talked a bit and he showed the Panny and that’s that. I left without even testing (yea I know I should have) but I had my car double parked in Manhattan NY and that’s a ticket for sure. So I kinda rushed it and left. I got home and wouldn’t you know it powered up!!! BUT.... it did nothing. I was pissed to say the least. Guy was willing to take it back and I almost did just that. But I said hold on. Let me look into it. A pancake resister and a resistive fuse later BOOM we have sound. Yay me!! But wait there’s more!!! I press play and the deck won’t move. Got mad again. Played around with it and had a spare 20v motor. A few touches here and there with the soldering gun and now the motor is back to full working condition. Cleaned the troublesome power/function switch and now she’s 100%!! So now I’m happy again. Well it didn’t end there. Now the VU meters don’t wanna dance to any music now (or probably haven’t in awhile). But at this point I’m just happy that the radio is working. And boy does she work!!! Deck working, radio working, switch and power working as it should. Man it was a stressful 3-4 days. But it’s good now. A lot of people have come out of the woodwork asking me to part with it but I think for now it’s a keeper. What sound this thing has. Bass is full and rich and the highs are amazing. Ambience compliments this unit so well. Thanks for reading guys. Sorry for my absence.
