Pigeons

So I adopted a Cute sweet Oriental old Frills Satinette pigeon. He's about a year old. Still trying to convince him we won't hurt him as he is skittish at times. Not a very good flier as he will circle the room land on his cage and seem to be out of breath. The bird is tame but seems afraid of human contact. I hope to get him to be more accepting of us. He is a domesticated breed and would not survive in the wild as they don't know how to forage for food.

He's not afraid of noise, that's for sure! I vacuum around his cage everyday and it doesn't phase him. I'll get a pic of him on my radio one of these days. He was being stubborn today so I grabbed him and had my wife keep him in her hands. He succumbed and relaxed. I think a daily dose of this will get him to realize we won't hurt him. He is very muscular and tried to wriggle out several times but he did calm down.

Very cute friend! Adorable!

Yeah, we do love this little guy! Everyday he gets to open up and surprise us with his personality. He started cooing in the morning when the sun comes up. Perfect gentile alarm clock! He does not like being grabbed but there's a special way to handle them by getting their legs between your fingers and wrapping your thumb around their back to hold their wings closed. Once I do that, he tends to stay calm and fluff up. I experimented today and took him to the other side of the house to the guest bath tub where my wife and I wanted to see if he would bathe himself. He sure did and it was cool to watch! When he was done, he flew to the edge of the tub and awaited me to take him back to his room. He stepped up to my hand and I walked with him unrestrained through the house and back to his cage top. He seemed relaxed and didn't want to hop off my hand.

Now, that's a little cutie looking more like some kind of exotic species - especially compared to the pigeons that swarm UK which look more like the tramps of the bird world.

That's great that he feels so relaxed now that he steps into your hand. Pretty soon he'll rule the house!

This reminds me of a line in Gertrude Stein's Four Saints in Three Acts: "Pidgeons on the grass, alas" Nice cutie

So the other night, he came waddling over to us from his room across the house. (We have him somewhat wing clipped for limited flying) he jumped on the couch which is covered for his business and eventually sat on my wife. She picked him up and was hugging and kissing him. She turned him upside down and gave him a belly rub. Never thought any pigeon would be this relaxed! He looked dead! Rested his head on her chest and closed his eyes. about 20 min later, he had enough and got up back to his resting spot on the couch.

Resting on the chair facing the pool. He owns the house when we are out. Gets defensive if you try to move him from his resting spot. Not afraid to *attempt* to puff up and attack you!

The way he's been acting up, I say yes. he's getting more cocky and lunges for you at his cutest moments when you reach into his cage. I may rehome him and get some doves instead. Those birds are always willing to reciprocate affection.

i looked after a friends parrot once, just as tame mind you he could nip you if he wanted to, i think they live until there 80 plus yrs

Pigeons and doves live about 3-5 years in the wild and about 12-18 in captivity. No diseases or predators in the latter I guess...

he will most likely out live me, that is for sure

i may need to go in the witness protection soon to protect my m90's myself lol, they are a wanted commodity around here lol . Hopefully the prices will come down soon, it's not fair on you new guys, even i can't afford another at these prices mate

I was just pulling your leg. Then again, If I do, it sounds like I may injure you unintentionally! LOL
its all good. I have my collection starting up nicely. Unfortunately, from the sounds of it (pun intended) none of my boxes live up to the sound quality aside from the M9990 that I expected. Even so, I love them just the same.

only sanyo iv had was a disappointment the 920 2 of them, there are much better boxes than the m90 although it's my fave because of the logic controls and dolby c, i don't know if you like 3 piece but there are some damn good ones out there....i think you may need more room than you have for future additions lol....great start to the collection btw also had a sanyo big ben now that was good while it lasted
