Ive been beta testing the windows 7 platform and so far sooo good.It has the feel of Vista but alot faster and less hungry on resources.Has alot of useful tools such as sticky notes and the ability to view other open windows just pausing pointer over them also shown.Didn't have to install any motherboard drivers at all which was a plus and a pain with XP and Vista.I am now on Windows 7, version 7100, evaluation copy.

No OS Issues on this last tester.Microsoft is fixing the issues found and are listening to us for a change. There reputation depends on a successful platform.Vista was a nightmare for them and even when the core issues were fixed the bad word had spread and Windows users stuck with XP no putting that Genie back in the bottle once it got out. Will say this just about all antivirus programs working with it are also in Beta form, the exception is AVG from Grisoft most have issues and wont even install.I am running the MCAfee complete protection beta for Windows 7 and so far no issues with it either. It is to be understood that the antivirus folks are on the fence until MS get's it close.I am impressed with this new Windows as they are giving younger software engineers and us everyday techies the chance to develop it properly and efficiently. It has features one truly uses in real life.I have high hopes for this one.

That does sound encouraging.

Personally, I'm still running XP on three machines here... Plus, my work PC has it too... so, four PC's in total.

I have a Vista upgrade package here that I've never used. Probably won't either. Why fix it if it ain't broke.

On my personal machines, I downloaded updates up to Service Pack 2 and shut off the auto-update. I'm knocking on wood as I'm typing this, but my machines are all running pretty smooth...

the laptop I'm on now has Vista, my first experience with it, I've heard bad things about Vista but i haven't had any problems. It's kind of weird, at work they just gave me a new Dell laptop with a sticker on it that says Vista but it is running XP, guess they reformatted it before giving them out.

Tested the beta at work quite a while ago and it looked OK.

Probably sticking with Vista Ultimate for the foreseeable as it's running sweet on my system since I kicked it into shape!

I'll judge it more objectively when we start installing OEM's on custom build PC's at work.

I used XP for about 7 years I loved the layout as it was a big leap forward from win 98,ME,2000 and earlier MS OS. But the dreaded BSOD was a major thorn and it would appear like clockwork every couple of months.JT your a wise man to install SP2 and then shut off auto update many believe SP3 is the death for XP.Update to SP3 on most system and your forced to upgrade to the next OS I did and had to change Hard drives on my system and do a new install of XP up to SP2 and shut off auto update too the system became so buggy that I almost considered Windows Vista.
After I upgraded to the system I have now ( new everything)I installed the Vista I must say it worked well once I disabled the User account control.I now have the windows 7 on the former Vista system and it's faster, uses less resources and gives control back to the user unlike Vista that kind of took control of your system for you.

Good job Jaetee!
No windows updates here either!!
It's not necessary!

BTW-I'm so bummed about Lavasoft. My Adaware SE won't update anymore-great anti-virus program.I heard Lavasoft is no more-is that true??
I'll have to go back to McAfee and I always delete temp files, cookies and history every night.
I'm very security concientious!
XP is the way to go-I'm more curious about Windows 7 though.
I wonder is this the new OS to replace Vista??
Let me know guys and what's the best anti-virus and spyware removal that you guys have found to work the best??
I'm curious as to what everyone is using.
Have a great one-GB. :-)

I have an RC1 copy of Windows 7 ready to go whenever I get around to installing it. I've heard a lot of good things about. One item that I like is the XP Compatibility Mode that will no doubt help out on some programs of mine.

Ghettoboom767... Windows 7 is going to replace Vista. If you have XP wait till Windows 7 is released the target date is 7-2010 give or take, my experimental face is over May 2010 at which time the final release should be done barring any unforseen issues,

I find vista fine and will not be upgreading for a good while, maybe it's because i have 8 gig ram and and a 12 gig prossesor, but i do find it slightly awkward to use.
