I am new to this forum have have already had some great advice from several members which has helped me on the way. I have started on a complete restoration of an Hitachi TRK-8290e and wanted to track the progress. Hopefully some will find this of interest and maybe some items may be of use.
I will try to update on a regular basis.
To set the scene. This is my first boombox restore. I have previously restored some vintage music centres such as the Sharp SG-400E which I really like.
What has started me in the road is an old picture of a friend of mine carrying his first boombox. I thought it would be great to try to track down the boombox that he used to have when he was younger, restore it and then all being well give it to him as a present on his birthday.
So the challenge is on. His birthday is in July so let’s hope I can do everything by then.

The search was on for a suitable one for restoration. As luck would have it there was one on EBay. Probably not the greatest example but time was an issue I am impatient and wanted to get started. After a little negotiation I managed to pick it up for £40.
