What's up BBXRY, its been a while since I have posted any of my recent customizations, although I do keep steady busy cleaning up my boomboxes every chance I get.

Ever since I purchased the DJ Tech, I have been wanting to change the appearance of the blacked out woofers. I had an old pair of chrome dust caps that were dull, and had some slight black paint overspray on them. I decided to use the same method and paint that I used on my Aiwa Exos-9 speaker rings, to give em a "chrome" appearance.

After painting the dust caps to a high gloss black, I let them cure for a few days before applying several coats of the Spaz Stix Mirror Chrome spray paint. I think they came out pretty decent for a spray can.

And here's the final outcome...

Some before and afters

I have always loved the looks and sound of the DJ Tech, and I know that some folks like blacked out woofers, but I'm just a sucker for shiny dust caps. Its a shame that these boxes are discontinued, its a great grab n go radio. Cheers.

Wow, looks so nice now.
I agree with you - Its a shame that these boxes are discontinued.
If these are selling in Europe, I will buy one for myself.

Thanks bro, they are really great boxes. The original battery that came with these wasn't the best, but once I found out about the replacement/upgrade that other members we're putting in theirs, I did the same thing, and it was well worth it too.

Man, those should have come with chrome caps at the beginning. You just increased the value of that thing by 249%.

Those look soooooo goooooood. Probably the only thing boring looking about mine is those black caps. These look bigger too, did you pop off the originals or put these over them?

Very kool, Steve! That spraycan chrome does look good!
Thanks James, I looked all over for some chrome dust cap replacements but I was only able to find some that we're about the size of the Lasonic woofers, maybe slightly larger, which was a way too big, so I decided to create my own ;-)

Thank you bro, I was thinking along the same lines, I'm just not a black speaker kinda guy I guess, These are just slightly bigger than the OG black ones, but just big enough to cover up the black ones completely. I applied these over the originals. The sound was not affected from what I can tell. These dust caps are so lightweight anyways, so I wasn't too concerned.

Nice!!!! Man I wish they still made chrome dust caps. Gotta find some junk speakers to sacrifice caps.
Yea bro they are hard to find, if all else fails, make your own ;-)

Very true, sometimes a subtle change is just enough without goin overboard.

Thank you all for the comments and feedback ;-)

It really toughen's up an already good looking box.

What did you use to adhere the caps to the speakers?
Thanks Chris, I used some glue I bought from simplyspeakers.com ... looks and smells like Elmers glue to me lol, but supposedly its for dust cap application

I'm pretty sure the tweeters on the DJ Tech are silk dome......which means you can't put dustcaps on em
