Spotted this on eBay last week & was very surprised!!

Now I've seen these "System 50" Aiwa's before but either beaten to fook or overpriced to a degree that makes you piss yourself laughing

I pondered for the usual 2 minutes before offering £35 which was accepted & just two days later she landed here!!

What can I say? If you think the "System 30" is nice, then this series will be a nice surprise............

Never had my hands on one or indeed any 50 series components before - These are real HiFi units once again but built to a crazily high standard & very beautiful too!

This is suffering from all belts disintegrated as expected & not much else it seems.........

I do think however that this deck will be a challenge to repair even for me!

Look at how much is packed in there & how many cables to be moved aside........

Once deck is out, I think it will be easy to rebelt with just cleaning of all the idlers & flywheel plus a drop of machine oil on the capstan!

I am loving the Led meters on this & I think they are tri-colour like the L30 deck just much longer in length & range!!

Of course this means that once repaired, I will be after System 50 digital tuner & a pre/power amp combination! Maybe they do an integrated amp? I don't know..........

Look out for the restore sometime soon............

Anyone want to buy a System 30??

I like these space-saving mini Hi-Fi units but the problem(?) with these and all other feature packed small audio items is the inside - they're jam packed with wires and components. This would never put me off but I'd be so reluctant to poke around inside that I'd (probably) buy a GWO/refurbished unit. All that said, I like this unit, it's the looks and functionality that'd keep me content for a long time to come. Nice one, Nick.

Nice one Nick!

I have a Sony of similar design to this model. I think there was a shift of thought from the manufacturers to provided "bookshelf" HIFI for the space conscious customer.

P.S. I love your "usual 2 minute" decision making! You'd never make it in politics I'm afraid.....you have to defer all decisions till a later date

That's a lovely compact deck, and I'm sure I would be mighty tempted if I saw one, but I agree with Christine about the innards. Oof! :-O
