Hello fellas I haven't been in the gig for about 3 yrs. on this topic Lasonic 920 said hmmm ask the guys on this before I take it in to the shop. Okay the Lasonic has been quiet for about 2.5 years. took out to fire up and the loudest humm. But the power switch will not disengage to shut down? you can barely hear the radio or tape over sound. if you increase Vol @ 2 woofs vibrate severely. Is the power switch my suspect or Power Caps? :hmmm:Thank you Deck Destroyers...

Hi BBB! Well that was done. And I even told Chris (lasonic 920) all that ahead of time. I still can't get the power button to turn off manually? the only thing is if it's in phono I won't get that loud vibration hum on the woofs. Hmmmm?

Hello, rokbox2112 :-). I can’t say that I can answer any of the questions that you raise in this topic of yours that was started over eleven months earlier. (I’m not “technically inclined.”)

But I do have a LASONiC stereo as well. I might as well divulge the model number: it’s a DTS-98. Like the LPC-90, the LASONiC DTS-98 is a sizeable, dual-cassette-deck boombox with detachable speakers. Unlike the LPC-90, though, the DTS-98 has a digital tuner and no fancy lights (for signal strength, for disco or whatever) that I can remember. And, unlike the LASONiC LPC-90 that I watched minutes earlier in a fifty-second YouTube clip, the LASONiC DTS-98 – that is, my DTS-98 – does not work at all. It was delivered to me early this month from an eBay seller in Russia. I suspect that it was Wrecked On Arrival (internally) because it has never worked since I got my hands on it here in our Florida home. Outwardly, it’s almost intact. (There is the matter of a somewhat dented speaker grille.) Inwardly, there is this awful thump that one hears and feels when one tilts the boombox backwards or forward far enough. I think that the assemblage of internal components has been jarred loose from its connections and from its moorings (postings).

I keep thinking that the lack of large, clear (and maybe red-coloured) “FRAGILE: HANDLE WITH CARE” labels pasted to at least four of the sides of the delivery carton allowed unwary cargo handlers in Russia and/or in America to not be gentle enough with the box. (I forgot to remind the seller and the seller forgot to apply the labels, as did the Russian Post workers, apparently.)

(Yes, they are very busy, handling thousands of packages and not just mine; yes, the Russian cargo handlers probably wouldn’t understand warning labels printed only in English and the American handlers wouldn’t understand labels only printed in Russian, even though there are internationally recognizable “broken wine glass” symbols for the warning “FRAGILE: HANDLE WITH CARE” and so on.)

Anyway, sir, let me ask: as an alternative to DIY repair, would your LASONiC LPC-90 be sent off to be repaired by an electronics repairer in Orange, California? Is he (or she) quite good at their line of work? (Not a silly question, I hope.) Might one get his (or her) name, the business name, the website URL and all that jazz :-D? This LASONiC DTS-98 really needs some fixing and mending :-/.
