Picked this up recently in Surrey UK from a furniture restorer who finds interesting stuff in peoples houses. Great guy with a good eye for stuff. He had interesting vintage calculators other boomboxes, transistors radios and cool furniture.
This box’s speakers are shot but the rest of it is tip top conditionwise.
I’ve replaced the toggle switch from an old parts CS-600 and have ordered the foams from the Netherlands.
Hopefully this should turn out well.

Nice catch!

I would try to see if anyone makes a rubber surround instead of foam (for the passive radiator). The foam one allows too much "farting" for my tastes. I couldn't leave the DSL button on with hip-hop or even just R&B music.

I have another one I bought years ago on its original foams still that ‘farts’ a little.

One way to counter the deflection in the passive radiator is to balance it from behind with weights.
Oh that's a pretty damn good idea!
Maybe glue a couple nickels onto it.

I can only drool..... I don't have a single AIWA in my collection.

Never seen a clean AIWA like this before.

Was busy updating the home theater.... high end receivers get obsolete so fast.

For some reason I never paid attention to any vintage blasters having a passive radiator. My JBL Boombox utilizes this technology and I must say that radiators pump out the bass. Might have to give a listen to one of these boxes 'farting' one day

The passive on an 880 is a load of bollocks mate, as they don't make a sound anyway...i have one  :-)

They do amplify the bass.....that's what it's for......but if you don't sort it right it farts/buzzes

I replaced the foams on all 3 main speakers on my 880 and it sounds fantastic, no farting from the passive even with the dsl up.

That was a great score at a great price Rudey.

Thanks Tre.
As I say my older one (in the video) farts a little but plays pretty well under its original foams. I’ll be looking to see what the difference is like side by side when the new one is done.

These boxes simply need a better more controlled passive radiator with that installed I mean it would be hard to beat one of these things.

also these boxes suffer from f***** up buttons and knobs and switches which all can affect the sound.
