VZ2000 collapsed function button

Ok, so I started the diagnosis, many problems with this beast but I don't know how to fix the function button on the right side of the boombox.
It looks like it's not conected to that ,,pop out,, mechanism.
It just seats bellow the frame and pressing it down gives a feeling like there is nothing under it.
Anyone enconterenc a problem like this?
Don't know if I need to start looking for a second vz for spares or its just a pop out of the holder thing.

They hang on a bar and pushes on foam, but it dries up and and crumbles into powder after so many years.

You have to take it apart and replace the foam. Here's a pic

Thank you for the answer, I took a day of work tomorrow to disable the vz, I hope that this is the issue because the button feels ,, unattached,, to any mechanism.

I have a bunch of these button somewhere just in case they're needed.
