I think that in 2019, no one will use Bluetooth to put music on their boombox at home anymore.
For my part, I prefer to use the services associated with my voice assistant (Google Home + Chromecast Audio / Amazon Assistant).
Voice command (associated with a Spotify/Deezer account) is very convenient!

So I'm thinking about integrating a Raspberry Pi 3 to add the Google Assistant option to my tuned boomboxes.
What do you think of that?

Plus not everyone wants a corporate (Amazon, Google, etc) microphone in their home, recording whatever it wants

I do use an Amazon Echo and yeh it’s super easy to use for music. I do plug it into a box every now and again and it would be a piece of cake to integrate it. But I do like seeing my playlists and picking and choosing tracks which is much easier with a screen and Bluetooth

i dont bother with my radios much anymore, and I dont often listen to music much these days, but if i did, bluetooth is the only thing i use, i have a bluetooth dongle that i connect to a box and play music from my phone, i think tapes and cd`s are way more obselete than bluetooth, for me, i just dont want to sit there and play a few tracks on a cassette with drop outs and hissy music, then rewinding and fforwarding, turning the cassette over, worn belts, worn pinch rollers, worn heads, no thanks, Sorry tape fans its just my lazy convenient lifestyle preference, i did used to love tapes back in the day though. Good Times.

That's says it all for me, I'll have no spies in my house. If I even suspect any visitor would have any recording device - direct or indirect - whether it be an audio or visual device then it'll not come into my house. If someone is determined to be attached to the device they can also take a walk regardless of who they may be. I'm not sure if folk who partake in the services of such things as social media, allow TV's to record their every word, use google glasses or use any of these home based spying devices are stupid or ignorant but they are certainly doing the human race a serious disservice. :annoyed:

Edit:

With regard to the op, I've never got past using hard copy media or radio other than mp3 files I've created and I'll certainly never use any online service that will spy on me by default. I have the likes of farcebook, yahoo, google, youtube et al permanently blocked on my laptops - if a page or site won't work unless I allow cookies then I leave the site. TBH, I don't even know what things like snap chat, whats app etc., are!

Lol I do pretty much everything online as it’s so much easier. I have several Amazon Echo’s and couldn’t give a crap if the CIA and Mi5 were listening in to every word I say...they’d be very bored lol

Sick of someone flooding ebay with bluetooth mods for boxes with pictures of different boomers. Bluetooth will be a thing for many a year to come for many uses but the devices you speak to for information? Seriously? This generation are already lazy, screen hungry spoilt kids, the last thing a house needs is another “tech” to make you not have to move...

Go for it Dan. Love the idea and am thinking that it‘ll be pretty badass to Talk to a Boombox instead of them ugly dots and What else - althought i could Not Decide which boombox to mod.

You are smart, very smart!! Now if I just didn’t have this damn I-Phone I’d be ok. No internet service,no cable,no satellite. Just a cell phone and to be honest I’d rather go back to pay phones and I’m still getting a land line with my 1962 rotary phone when I get to my next place!

forget the tin foil hat brigade, besides if your that concerned build it then get rid. the fun's in the journey not the destination apparently, would love to see the implementation even just for the knowledge.

I've wired a Chromecast Audio internally to one of my radios and it's connected to my networks' media server and controlled using BubbleUPNP on my phone and tablet. The good way of doing this is that I can control different renderers (end points) using the same controller or control them all in one go for parties etc.

As there's no microphone there's no issue with eavesdropping.
