Hello everybody!
I recently acquired an awesome Sharp GF-9292, it came as a box of parts. Seems a previous owner tried to fix this bad-boy up but got in over his head. Anyway, after a couple of months I have this beast back to former glory. One of the numerous issues I had was a missing thumb screw for the cassette door. These things are unobtainable as I have found out.

Unable to find any replacements I decided to have a go at making them. They turned out better than I expected, not exactly the same as the original but definitely good enough. The new screw have a bigger head than the originals.

If anyone else needs replacement thumb screw for their boombox or component tape player, let me know I can make you a pair for AU$40 + postage. The thumb screws on the Sharp box I have have an M3-UNF thread, I don't know if this is common among other brands but I can make them to any size.

My screws have a polished finish but they can be painted if you'd rather, I have a silver that is very similar to typical 80's boombox silver.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

You've made some nice items, such skills must be as rare as trying to find the original parts you're looking for. I've been looking for 1 brown one for an Hitachi but I've had no luck in 2yrs of looking.

Great work could you make from aluminium as thats what original was
Really not so difficult to find I still have a lot of them from original parts

should of asked
but I think its great that you are working on ways to reproduce these parts and hopefully the price will come down
I have 9191 X2 US $12 original + shipping
and 9292 X2 US $15 original + shipping
9696 X2 US $15 original + shipping
victor M70 X2 $15 original + shipping
and many others
but I think if you look at more rare boxes there is a need
this is one of the most produced boxes out there and i think I will have parts for
as long as I am alive touch wood

The model is the TRK-8600 (same detail as the TRK-8200) but, having taken a second look in daylight the 'door thumb screws' appear to be almost flush with the surface of the deck door so I think it fair to say these are more of a 'button' than a 'thumb screw' and I now see the aperture is not threaded. There's an image and video already on this forum where this can be seen.

If anyone has any knowledge of the 'brown button' I'm looking for, would you know if this serves a purpose such as securing the door cover in place and whether or not the button fits onto the door prior to the perspex cover being fitted or the button is fitted after the perspex door is fitted?

Many thanks, if it's just a visual or aesthetic item I'll make one myself if I fail to find one and make it a semi-permanent attachment.

I bought Nikonfoo some parts for my gf 9191 (antenna, cassette door cover, tuner window) three years ago! excellent service and fast shipping to Argentina.
