Ain't that the truth! Methinks Schmuckerberg will land on his arse big time because the novelty has worn off, people have become wise to the business model and it really is a big waste of time. It beggars belief that folk spend all day monitoring themselves and grassing themselves up to every possible spy agency. I mean, why???? You know it's bad when snowflakes and their ilk believe only farcebook is not fake news - if it's on farcebook, it must be true. :dunce:

I joined FB once and did so under a phony name so I could spy on people I liked and to harass people I did not like. I lasted a couple months before getting kicked off by the moderation. I haven't been back since then and have no desire to.

It's all far too easy to get yourself kicked off farcebook, just mention you are not a leftie or post link to genuine, authenticated news and you're off!

Yeah, my all too obvious Right Wing leanings have gotten me censored and/or outright kicked off of many platforms. What really makes my blood boil is when something I do or post does NOT violate any rules...but they erase it anyway. Grrrrrrr :bang:

It's not really just facebook, let's be honest, the scourge of "social media" had one focus, to utilise certain flaws in the human psyche to get people addicted.
It is one of the 21st century scourges leading to the rise of fake news and many other very nasty things. Sad face.

Maybe it's my own unique take on it, but I see social media as an insidious "conduit" for political correctness and virtue signalling.

I see the opposite, I think social media causes people to become LESS politically correct, because I constantly see racist and violent crap they wouldn't dare speak in real life.

I don't think the problem is so critical. New generations always follow something new, and now it's social networks.

Facebook is not as popular as Instagram, for example, but these are two excellent platforms for self-realization if you think about it. My daughter runs an Instagram blog, and I am very happy about her success. Initially, we bought followers on 1394TA, but people started to be interested in my daughter's account and follow her. Maggie draws wonderful comics, and she has already been invited to go to a cool college thanks to her Instagram account.

Why do I observe a permanent negative attitude towards Instagram?
Because they keep changing the algorithm. First to prioritize corporate advertisers instead of the people I follow, and secondly to prioritize videos instead of photos, which means it consumes more data, and most of those videos are garbage anyway because they're copied straight from TikTok. There's millions of new users whose profiles only contain stuff they already posted on TikTok.
